Leh-Manali highway thrown open for traffic

Leh, Jun 12 (KNS): The Border Road organization today threw open the Leh- Manali Road for traffic after remained blocked for over six months due to heavy snow accumulation.

Chief Engineer Project Himank, Brig Nitin K Sharma while expressing pleasure said that the Leh- Manali is an important axis and a major responsibility of the Border Roads to keep it motorable.

“The road serves as a life line for the people of Ladakh, ensuring essential supplies for winter when the region remains cut off,” he said.

Chief Engineer said that the BRO personnel worked with strenuous efforts to reopen the road.

“Despite Sub-zero temperature, high altitude and threat of avalanches our jawans faced unprecedented hardships in the snow clearance operation in the sector to ensure the early reopening of the strategic road. The weather have played spoil sport in the snow clearance,” Chief Engineer added.

The large number of tourists prefer the picturesque landscape to visit Leh from Manali by road. (KNS)
