Srinagar, Sep 01 (KNS): National Conference (NC) on Saturday emerged as a single largest party in the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil by attaining tens seats in the polls, held on August 27.
The NC won ten seats in LAHDC elections and emerged as the single largest party while as the state congress emerged as victorious on eight seats, thus positioned at the second place.
The elections for the 26 council out of 30 was held on August in which more than 70 per cent electorate turned out to exercise their franchise in the fourth election to 30-seat LAHDC Kargil.
Notably, the four councilors out of 30 for LAHDC are being directly nominated by the state government.
Interestingly, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged as victorious on two seats while as the Independent candidates emerged as victorious on five seats.
However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has opened its account in the LAHDC, Kargil by emerging as victorious on one seat.
Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), the state congress chief, G A Mir said expressed gratitude to the people of Ladakh for coming out in a large number to exercise their franchise, saying that the party was expecting that the people won’t throw fractured mandate to elect the council.
“Now, the ball is in the court of National conference. It is up to them now to take any decision whether they wish to have a stable house or they want to go for old pattern,” he said, adding that they have also authorized their MLA to see any chances or bonhomie to form the stable house or to be a positive and constructive opposition.
He further said that the BJP has also opened its account in LAHDC as the congress’s Zanskar candidate had some issues and later went for polls independently for which the party will be initiating action soon.
NC provincial president, Nasir Aslam Wani while talking to KNS thanked people of Kargil for making NC as single largest party.
He said that it is a good sign that the people once again choose NC as their candidates rather PDP who left people to suffer in every aspect.
BJP general secretary Ashok Koul said that the opening of account is the big success for the party.
“In comparison to the previous elections, the voter turnout for the party has increase up to 2553 votes,” he said, adding that in coming Panchayat and Municipal elections, the party will fight from all the regions, saying that the party is hopefully that it will open the account in Kashmir as well.
