Jammu, Feb 23 (KNS): A Kashmiri research scholar has been awarded the prestigious fellowship on rural studies awarded for the first time by National Council of Rural Institutes (NCRI), Hyderabad here on Friday.
Waseem Hassan Khan, a PhD scholar in the Department of Economic, Central University of Jammu (CUJ) has been awarded the fellowship by NCRI for his crucial research on carpet industry of Jammu Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh.
The fellowship has been given for the first time by the Council for studies on rural development. It is among the most prestigious and competitive rural studies awards in India, funds an academic year of full-time research and writing.
Vice Chancellor of CUJ, Ashok Aima presented the letter of award to Khan at an event. It was attended by the Minister of State for Rural Development, Sunil Sharma, Director Information, Muneer-ul-Islam, Assistant Director NCRI, and Head Department of Mass Communication Prof Govind Singh besides Rural Development Department officials, teachers, students and media.
“I would like to thank research guide Prof RL Bhat and faculty of economics department especially Dr J Jegannathan who inspired me for the important study about rural areas. My colleagues also supported me in this endeavor,” Waseem told media after receiving the award letter.
He said teachers and colleagues were the major supporters for him all along his stay in the university. “They inspired me to work hard. I would like to thank them wholeheartedly today,” he said. (KNS)
