Srinagar August 14: (KNS) In yet another unfortunate event at Kashmir University, the boarders residing in varsity’s hostels have complained that their belongings are missing from their hostel rooms. Kashmir University hostels were closed in March due to COVID-19. As emergent requirement on March 19, the Zakura Campus hostel and M.A boys hostel of Kashmir University were converted into quarantine centres by district magistrate Srinagar under order DCS/PS/19/1191-99.
J&K Students Movement (J&KSM) in A statement to KNS, reads as, received over a dozen complaints from students who complained that they found their belongings missing from their hostel rooms. Some of the students who went to their rooms after March complained that their important documents are missing. I have travelled from South Kashmir in order to get some of my important documents and my project thesis which I had started working on a year ago. When I reached my hostel room, I was surprised to see my locker wide open, the documents and project files were all missing. Said a boarder of Zakura Hostel.
Another student complained that he has found his uniform, jeans and a mini laptop missing from his hostel when he visited after a gap of four months.
Many others complained that their books, clothes and other belongings have been missing from their rooms.
The administrative orders are adding to the miseries of students. Students privacy must have been given the utmost consideration. The Disaster Management Authority Srinagar instead of using KU hostels should have used the government residential quarters as Quarantine centres or should have converted the classrooms into same. J&KSM said in a statement.
J&KSM urges, students who have lost their belongings must be compensated and demands an action against this gross negligence where even the privacy of students has been violated. The concerned officers who were deputed to take over the premises shall be made accountable.(KNS)
