J&K administration defends PSA on Omar Abdullah, calls him threat to law and order

Srinagar, March 2 (KNS): To justify the detention of former J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the J&K Administration has stated that he was a crowd influencer who could raise mass agitations against the center for repealing the special status of the state, which has the potential to create law and order issue.
The J&K administration told the court that the court cannot review the detention of Omar Abdullah. The counter affidavit filed by District Magistrate, Srinagar to oppose the habeas corpus petition filed by Abdullah's sister Sarah Abdullah Pilot states that he has been a vocal critic of attempts to repeal Article 370 and 35A and has a history of making provocative statements in social media against the union of India.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta filed the response on behalf of the Jammu and Kashmir administration on Pilot's plea before a bench.
The J&K administration defended the prolonged detention of Omar Abdullah saying the action was a result of the leader's "live and proximate link" to past events.
"Geographical proximity of J&K and Ladakh to Islamic republic of Pakistan is also a factor," said the Jammu and Kashmir administration while defending the detention.
Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and Farooq Abdullah, along with scores of Kashmiri leaders were detained in August ahead of the government's move to abrogate Article 370 on August 5 (KNS).
