Srinagar, May 21 (KNS): Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) today paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 29th death anniversary, in a function held at PCC HQ Shaheedi Chowk Jammu. Amidst coronavirus scare worldwide only prominent leaders paid tributes maintaining social distance and guidelines by Health Ministry.
According to statement issued to KNS, Similar functions were also held at all party headquarters across Jammu Province. On this occasion Ration items packed vehicles were also flagged off for distribution among needy in different locations of Jammu to mark the occasion.Prominent among those who paid tributes include Raman Bhalla Vice President PCC , Ravinder Sharma Chief Spokesperson PCC , Incharge Congress Control Room and Former Minister J&K Yogesh Sawhney , Manmohan Singh General Secretary PCC , Neeraj Gupta Secretary PCC , Surinder Singh Shingari Sr. Congress leader , Suresh Dogra Chairman OBC PCC , Pranav Shagotra , Dr. RamaKant Khajuria , Pawan Dev , Jyoti Vaid , Anoop Gupta , Sushant Gupta , Gurmeet Singh , Sohan Dutt Sharma , Hardavinder Singh , Ajay Kumar, Ram Mangotra beside others. Meanwhile former acting Chairman of JK Legislative Council and senior Congress leader Arvinder Singh Micky also remembered Rajiv Gandhi and paid rich tributes to him.
While paying floral tributes former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla described Rajiv Gandhi as a Visionary Leader who prepared the country and the youth of the nation for the challenges of the 21st century in the world. He introduced the I.T revolution in the country as a result India has immerged as leader in the field of I.T and Computer in the world and the youth of this country got the maximum jobs opportunities in this field within and outside the country. Today the present government talks of digital India because of Rajiv Gandhi, whom then opposition parties had described as a “Computer Boy”.
Bhalla further said that Panchayat Raj in the country and lowering of age for voting rights from 21styears to 18 years is the result of Rajiv Gandhi’s Vision. He strengthened democracy at the grass root level in the country with greater participation of women, youth, SCs, STs, OBCs and transferred power to the people.He regretted that his untimely assassination has left his dreams halfway, which is the responsibility of the present generation to carry forward and the congressmen have to adhere to the programmes, principles and ideology of the party and our great leaders. He said that martyrdom of Bharat Ratna, Rajiv Gandhi would continue to lead the Nation at the path of unity, harmony and development.
He asked the party leaders and grass root workers to highlight the great achievements of the party amongst the people and to expose the falsehood and propaganda of the BJP. He said that congress is committed to maintain the unity and integrity of the country and religious brotherhood for which our leaders have given supreme sacrifices. Several other senior leaders paid rich tributes to the leader and described him as the Architect of 21st century India because his initiatives in bringing IT revolution, Panchayat Raj System and greater involvement of youth in democracy.
Bhalla while recalling his selfless services and sacrifices to the Nation said the departed leader shall always be remembered for the services he has rendered to people irrespective of their caste or religion. He described Rajiv Gandhi as a tallest leader of the country under whose leadership the Nation touched the new heights in respect of development, education, science and technology etc.
JKPCC Chief Spokesman Ravinder Sharma speaking on the occasion recalled the sacrifice and services of Rajiv Gandhi for the cause of the country. He said Rajiv Gandhi has a great role in improving Panchayati Raj system, computer revolution and expansion of IT sector. Massive development in the rural India was witnessed during his tenure as Prime Minister. Sharma also said Rajiv Gandhi was a martyr and the country owes a debt of gratitude to its martyrs.Rajiv Gandhi felt the pulse of a young India & steered us towards a brighter future, he understood the needs of the young & old and was loved by one and all," he said.
Paying his tributes to late Prime Minister, Sawhney described him as a "true patriot, liberal and who put the country on the path of progress and self-reliance with his farsightedness.He said Congress party has decided that due to coronavirus pandemic, instead of giving advertisements in his memory and while paying respects to him, the entire amount so saved will be utilised for helping migrant labourers and workers. Congress workers in the entire country have also taken this pledge to make efforts and focus on helping the needy," he said. (KNS)
