JKJCCPS calls on Advisor Gania, seeks extension of school registration to 10 years

Srinagar, Jun 06 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Joint Coordination Committee of Private Schools (JKJCCPS) Thursday called on Advisor to Hon’ble Governor Khurshid Ahmad Ganai and appealed to him extending registration term of the schools may be extended to 10 years.
JKJCCPS delegation, which met advisor, was led by its president Showkat M Chowdhary who was accompanied Professor (Dr.) C.L. Vishen, Iqbal Hanief Beg, Er. M. Owais Raja, M. Y. Manzar, Altaf Gowhar, Showkat Ahmad, Abdul Hameed, Rouf Ahmad, Fayaz Ahmad and others.

Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Department Sarita Chauhan was also present in the meeting.
Chowdhary informed the Advisor that registration to the private schools is granted only after thorough inspection by the government is done.

“The registration is however granted for only five years which should be extended to a minimum of 10 years. If any schools are found lacking and violating the norms during the inspection, the authorities may cancel the registration or issue show cause notice to the school.”

The delegation further urged that the Term of Managing Committee be extended from three years to five years, which would help in the smooth functioning of the schools.

The JKJCCPS delegation further drew the attention of the advisor to the JK School Education Act 2002, issued by JK Civil Secretariat Education Department under SRO 123 issued on 18th March 2010.

The delegation said Act titled Levy and Collection of Fee states, "The admission shall be charged only once I.e upon first enrolment of the child / student in the school. The Levy and Collection of Fee under JK School Education Act of 2002 is a balanced order helping both schools and parents.”

The delegation said order No 01-FCC of 2019 issued by Fee Fixation Committee on January 28, 2019 barring private schools from charging one time admission fee is in total contravention of the JK School Education Act.
“The fresh order should be modified and school may be allowed to charge one time admission fee which is purely used for the development of the school infrastructure and help students get better education in line with modern standards,” urged the delegation.
JKJCCPS said the Advisor and the Commissioner Secretary gave patient hearing to the delegation and assured that their issues will be looked into. (KNS)
