Srinagar, Aug 18 (KNS): In a bid to protect the Article 35-A case in Supreme Court in unison, Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Coordination Committee (JKCSCC) have so far met with several applicants whose intervention applications were accepted by the top court of India.
The committee said that the reach out is aimed to defend the state subject law unitedly.
Awami National Conference (ANC) senior Vice President and JKCSCC member, Muzaffar Shah told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that besides him, the committee comprising Deputy Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, Advocate Mir Javaid, All Party Sikh coordination Committee (APSCC) chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina met scores of applicants including CPI (M) senior leader and MLA Kulgam, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami and Congress Working Committee (CWC) member and former Member of Parliament (MP), Tariq Hameed Karra to formulate a joint strategy to fight for the protection of Article 35-A.
He said that the committee discussed the strategy to fight unitedly against the evil designs who are hell bent to abrogate the state subject law.
Shah further said that the committee is also going to meet National Conference (NC) president and three times chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday over the issue.
“We will be meeting Bar Association shortly as well. We have already sent a letter to the association to hold a meeting over the issue and to discuss the joint strategy to protect the constitution,” he added.
ANC leader further informed KNS that he is also visiting Jammu tomorrow where he is supposed to meet the civil society. “After holding meeting with them, we will be giving a joint presser also,” he added.
Asked about the meeting with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the JKCSCC member said that the party is yet to file an application in the top court. “Once they file application, we will take the decision to meet them accordingly,” he added.
Shah said that the applicants whom they met also pledged to fight the case in unison.
Meanwhile, CPI (M) senior leader and MLA Kulgam, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami there is need of joint fight in the Supreme Court over the issue. “All those whose applications have been accepted by the top court of India must be united to defend the constitution,” he added.
Earlier, JKCSCC had said that they will be meeting all those applicants whose intervention applications were accepted by the Supreme Court of India to defend the Article 35-A.
The committee had said that they will meet the applicants to defend the case at SC in unison. (KNS)
