Srinagar, Mar 5 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir RTI movement on Monday registered a formal complaint at National Human Rights Commission, New Delhi against the killing of youth in Shopain.
JK RTI Movement on Monday filed a petition before the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) over the killing of 3 civilians namely Suhail Khaleel Wagay R/O Pinjoora Shopian , Mohammad Shahid Khan R/O Malik Gund Shopian and Shahnawaz Ahmad Wagay R/O Trenz Shopianm at village Pahnoo Shopian on Sunday night March 4.
The petitioner Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat Founder & Chairman of J&K RTI Movement has prayed that culprits from 44 RR should be identified and should not be allowed to take refuge under the garb of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).
The RTI Movement has demanded that the victim families should also be paid a compensation of Rs 50 lakh each and matter be investigated through a sitting Judge of Supreme Court
The J&K RTI Movement in statement issued to KNS said it strongly condemns the killing of the youth at Shopian in South Kashmir at the hands of government forces. “The atrocious crime reminds us about the draconian laws like AFSPA, which provides impunity to troopers serving in this militarized region,” reads the statement.
Spokesman J & K RTI Movement said that the atrocities cannot be legitimized by the world’s biggest democracy’ and cases can't be put under the carpet by shielding its forces time and again.
Founder RTI Movement Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat said that the people of Kashmir are never safe under these draconian laws. The entire population of the Kashmir region has been living under the constant terror for the past 28 years. “It is the worst state of affairs. After each and every brutal and inhuman killing of innocents the State has been ordering probes and inquiries yielding no results and bringing not a single culprit to the justice,” Bhat was quoted in the statement as having said.
He added that the need of the hour is to revoke AFSPA and other inhuman laws from J&K as soon as possible so that no human loss takes place in future.” It is about time India needs to be serious about the revocation of AFSPA,” Bhat maintained.
Meanwhile, the NHRC on Monday acknowledged the compliant it received from J&K RTI movement under its diary number 181166. (KNS)
