JK Govt getting ready for assembly elections as Rajnath announces centre’s willingness

Srinagar, Dec 28 (KNS): With Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh drooping hints of conducting Assembly elections along with forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Governor Satya Pal Malik holding one on one meetings with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer Shalinder Kumar and IGP Jammu. The stage seems to have been set for the conduct of assembly elections in the state.
Sources while disclosing this to Kashmir News Service (KNS) revealed that the central government has conveyed its willingness to hold assembly elections along with parliamentary elections in the state and Governor Satya Pal Malik has started gearing up election machinery for the conduct of assembly elections along with parliamentary elections in Jammu and Kashmir state. As part of the election preparations, chief electoral officer Shalinder Kumar on Friday held extensive one on one meeting with Governor Satya Pal Malik during which he briefed him on the preparation of electoral roles and other issues related to preparation of elections in the state. The decision to hold parliamentary elections along with assembly elections has been reduced to a mere formality now as Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has made it emphatically clear on the floor of the house in Lok Sabha that it is for the election commission to take a call on the conduct of assembly elections along with parliamentary elections in the state.
Meanwhile former chief minister and National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah has in a tweet welcomed Rajnath Singh’s statement on showing his readiness for conduct of assembly elections in the state. Omar wrote on twitter, “An important assurance on the floor of the house in Lok Sabha this should put to rest motivated speculations that elections in the state will happen only after the general elections.”
It is in place to mention here that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh while replying to a debate on proclamation of Presidential rule in the state in the Lok Sabha said, “The central government would take no wrong or immoral action in the state. We are ready for assembly polls but the decision has to be taken by the election commission. We are totally committed to democratic process. (KNS)
