Srinagar November 8:(KNS) Apni Party Incharge Zadibal constituency Irfan Naqeeb on Sunday expressed deep concern over the continuous detention of religious scholar and leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

In a statement issued to KNS, Naqeeb said that it is highly unfortunate that Mirwaiz who enjoys the reputation of being the head priest of the Valley is being kept under arbitrary house detention for the last one-and-a-half year.

“His continuous house arrest has barred him from carrying out responsibilities of preaching at J&K historic Jamia Mosque,” Naqeeb remarked.

He said the current Islamic month marks the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and people from every part of the Valley are used throng to Jamia Mosque to listen to to the Mirwaiz about the life and deeds of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

Naqeeb urged the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene and facilitate the release of Mirwaiz so as to enable him to perform his religious obligations.(KNS)
