Anantnag, Nov 29 (KNS): The Minister for Information Technology, Technical Education and Youth Services & Sports, Imran Raza Ansari today inaugurated a new building of Government Polytechnic College, Larkipora, Anantnag.
The Minister was accompanied by the MoS Hajj and Auqaf, Syed Farooq Ahmad Andrabi, DDC Anantnag Mohammad Younis Malik, Director, Technical Education, Shabnam Shah Kamili and other concerned officers.
The Minister was informed that Government Polytechnic College Larkipora is spread over an area of 75 kanals of land. The college building of 5717.66 sq.ft is constructed by the R&B Department at an approved cost of Rs 13 crore against which Rs 11.75 crore has been released to the department. Besides, the three-storey college building is having 22 laboratories, 10 admission rooms, two-faculty rooms, besides, classrooms, computer rooms, seminar room, VIP room and a library room.
The Minister sanctioned a basketball court and a volleyball court, besides, a school bus for the students of the College.
He was informed that the college is offering courses in civil engineering and computer engineering and so far three batches have completed their courses. The Minister said that new courses shall also be introduced in the College very soon.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said vocational training programmes and proper skilling will empower the unemployed youth which will effectively address the unemployment issue in the State to a large extent.
He said that the Government led by Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti is committed to provide requisite skills to the unemployed youth under Skill India mission so as to make them employable. He said that the ministry is embarking on various modules and courses to hone the skills of the unemployed educated youth so that they can compete at the national and international levels.
Meanwhile, the Minister directed the Director Technical Education to devise new courses that need to be introduced in the Polytechnic Colleges and ITIs keeping in view the market requirements.
He further added that sports infrastructure should also be developed in the district so as to nourish the sports talent in the youth.
The Minister called upon the educated youth to come forward and avail the benefits under different government schemes and start a generation of new-spirited entrepreneurs.
Many delegations associated with different local trades including handloom, handicrafts, carpentry, interacted with the Minister and presented their demands. He gave them a patient hearing and assured of all possible help.
Earlier, the Minister also inaugurated the additional blocks of ITI Anantnag comprising of workshop block, theory room block and library block. Currently, over a dozen of trades are offered at the ITI Anantnag and these additional blocks will enhance the intake capacity of the ITI. (KNS)
