‘Many employees lost lives due to non-availability of health insurance’

Srinagar, Nov 27 (KNS): Employees Joint Action Committee President Abdul Qayoom Wani Monday urged upon the chief minister, minister for finance, state chief secretary and commissioner Secretary finance to implement mediclaim policy in the state and should be made mandatory for all gazetted, non gazetted, public sector, temporary, daily wagers and all categories of employees.
In a statement issued to KNS, Wani expressed his deep concern for delay in the implementation of the mediclaim policy.
He said government is not keen towards this sensitive issue in the cost of health care.
Wani said that any further delay in implementation of health insurance shall prove detrimental and would tantamount to violation of human rights.
He expressed that it is the duty of state govt to ensure the quality Health of its employees. The scheme despite a lapse of one year has not still been implemented and tendering is yet to be done. The period of mediclaim for gazetted employees too has expired in august this year.
Despite the fact that the issue was repeatedly raised by employees joint action committee is soaring very high.
Wani said that govt should go for open tendering of the scheme and be given to the lowest bidder with lowest premium.
Wani urged the state govt to take immediate measures in this regard and all the govt and public sector including temporary, daily waged and other types of employees be covered under the medical insurance scheme.
He said that many employees lost their lives due to non availability of health insurance and many are suffering due to life consuming diseases and have no access to high priced and quality health care hospitals.
Wani raised this issue in different meeting held with state govt from time to time but till date no substantial progress has been made in this regard.
He said keeping on view the need and efficacy of health insurance the Chief Minister, minister for finance, chief secretary and other stake holders are strongly urged upon to take necessary steps so that the state employees are brought under cover of health insurance.
Wani hoped that the govt shall rise to occasion and would initiate the process at the earliest. (KNS)
