Hosting 'beef party' by Rashid was wrong: Law Minister

Srinagar, Oct 8 (KNS): Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Syed Basharat Bukhari Thursday said that the 'beef party' hosted by Independent legislator Er Abdul Rashid was "wrong" keeping in view the religious sentiments of the people.
"What Er Abdul Rashid did was wrong. He should have restrained himself from hosting the beef party. Nobody has the right to hurt the religious sentiments of other person," Bukhari told KNS.
The PDP minister, whose party is in alliance with the BJP, condemned the assault on Rashid by some BJP legislators in the Legislative Assembly today morning.
Rashid was assaulted by the BJP legislators in the Lower House today morning as they were angered by his hosting of a beef party at MLA Hostel here last evening.
The BJP legislators stay in the same hostel where the party was arranged by Rashid.
"I condemn the attack on Engineer Rashid by the BJP legislators in the Assembly. Being in the Treasury Benches, the BJP legislators should not have assaulted the legislator," he said.
Bukhari, however, said that nobody has the right to stop or snatch any other person from following his religious rights and his choices.
"I am a Muslim and nobody can stop me from eating beef. I have my own religious sentiments in the same way other people have their religious sentiments. But at the same time we should respect each other’s religious sentiments," he said.
He added that the constitutions of India and the Jammu and Kashmir have granted fundamental rights to its citizens which no law can take away from them.
"As per the constitutions of India and our State, I have the right to life which also implies I have the right to eat too," he added. (KNS)
