Highway reopens for stranded vehicles, no fresh vehicle allowed to ply

Srinagar, May 11 (KNS): The Srinagar-Jammu highway continued to remain closed for the vehicular movement on the third consecutive day on Saturday while as the stranded vehicles were allowed to ply.

The highway was thrown open this morning for the stranded vehicles but was closed soon after the fresh landslides hit the road.

Officials in the traffic department said that no fresh traffic was allowed to play on the either sides of the highway today while as only stranded vehicles were allowed to ply.

He said that the highway was closed for some hours today after fresh landslides but was thrown open in the evening during which the rest of the stranded vehicles was being allowed to ply.

The reports said that over 3,000 vehicles were stranded at various places on the highway. The businessmen especially mutton dealers had said that their 150 trucks was stuck on the highway, that caused paucity of mutton here.

The highway was closed due to landslides triggered by rainfall at Digdol area of Ramban district.

The local Meteorological department had said that there is possibility of light rainfall till May 15 intermittently.

Deputy Director MeT, Mukhtar Ahmad informed that there was no chance of heavy rains during these days, saying rains accompanied by puny winds would likely be witnessed in Jammu and Srinagar areas during these days. (KNS)
