Met office says intermittent rainfall to continue, no prediction of heavy downpour
Srinagar, Jul 25 (KNS): Heavy rainfall lashed Kashmir on Thursday morning, bringing relief to the people from scorching heat wave, even as water logging caused problems for commuters.

Due to heavy downpour in the morning, most of the roads, lanes, by-lanes and interior localities got submerged, causing immense hardships to the city residents.

In view of the inundation of roads, the divisional administration Kashmir pressed men and machinery to ensure people don’t suffer.

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan while talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS) said that almost 52 locations in Srinagar were dewatered.

“The Meteorological department had already predicted rainfall. After the rainfall caused inundation, the concerned departments and officials were pressed into the services who have made the dewatering stations functional to ensure the people don’t suffer,” he said.

The Div Com said he has directed Deputy Commissioners (DC) of respective districts to ensure people don’t suffer. “They (DCs) have pressed men and machinery in their respective districts. The work is going on and I am personally monitoring the situation besides DCs in their respective districts,” he said.

About ongoing annual Amarnath Yatra, Khan said it is being monitored by all the higher ups including Advisor to the Governor, as well as the Chief Secretary. “Not only Amarnath Yatra but the Haj operation is also being monitored by the top officials,” he said.

Meanwhile, MeT office Director Sonum Lotus told KNS the intermittent rain would continue for the next two days. “There is possibility of light to moderate rainfall till July 27. Heavy rainfall is the outcome of arrival of Monsoon season,” he said.

Lotus added there is no prediction of heavy downpour that can led to any untoward situation.

Pertinently, the rainfall has put an end to the hot weather conditions that continued for over two weeks in the Valley. (KNS)
