Hasnain Masoodi formally welcomed into National Conference

Srinagar, Mar 25 (KNS): Former High Court Judge Hasnain Masoodi was today welcomed into J&K National Conference by party President Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Party Vice President Omar Abdullah and Party General Secretary Haji Ali Mohammad Sagar.

Dr. Mustafa Kamal Additional General Secretary, Abdul Rahim Rather, Provincial Presidents Nasir Aslam Wani and Devender Singh Rana, Mubarak Gul, Shameema Firdous, Shamee Oberoi, Tanveer Sadiq, Mushtaq Guroo, Yawar Masoodi were among others present on the occasion.

Justice Masoodi a Senior Advocate Supreme Court of India is J&K National Conference candidate for South Kashmir Parliamentary Constituency

Justice Masoodi belongs to Khrew town of South Kashmir in Pulwama district. He did law from Kashmir University in first rank in 1977 and was enrolled as advocate in the same year. He topped the list for Judicial service and was appointed as civil judge in 1982.

He got admitted to Masters program in Harvard University, USA a prestigious seat of learning and obtained Masters degree in law in 1993. He was elevated to Bench in 2009.

He has a number of important judicial pronouncement to his credit. In October 2015 he rendered landmark judgement on Article 370, declaring it a permanent feature of the Constitution and that it can’t be “abrogated, repealed or even amended”.

In another judgement Justice Masoodi had ruled that the “conversion of the post of ‘Sadar-e-Riyasat’ into Governor and Prime Minister was beyond legislative competence and therefore unconstitutional.

Justice Masoodi in another pronouncement directed the state government and its functionaries to hoist the state flag on “all official buildings and vehicles” of constitutional authorities.

Justice Masoodi after laying down robes got actively associated with child rights and as Chairperson of Selection cum Oversight Committee laid strong foundation of child rights in the state. He has been taking up child rights issues like preventive detention of children, rights of children of returnees and challenges of children in conflict zone.

On this occasion Justice Masoodi stated that the challenges ahead call for a strong political leadership and J&K National Conference is more a movement across regions and communities than a political party and is well equipped to meet these challenges. He identified Autonomy at State and Regional level, protection of Articles 370 and 35A and repeal of all oppressive laws as his priorities. (KNS)
