Expresses concern over skyrocketing hike by airlines

Srinagar, Feb 01 (KNS): Chairman Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) Hakeem Yaseen has expressed concern over arbitrary hike in airfares by various airlines running between Srinagar to Jammu and vice versa. He said Government was acting as mute spectators over the high handedness of airlines who are fleecing passengers in the advent of closure of Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, the only life line connecting Kashmir with rest of the country and other weather vagaries.
In a statement issued to KNS, Hakeem Yaseen has urged the Governor S P Malik to take serious note of the high handedness of air lines operating in Srinagar to Jammu and vice versa as they have increased the rates many folds which is beyond the capacity of common people. “They are not sparing even the tourists coming to state during leak season,” Hakeem Yaseen said adding that it was most unfortunate that at a time when the people needed some relief and concessions to travel from Jammu to Srinagar and vice versa due to prevailing vulnerability of the National High 1A, prices of air tickets have been increased skyrocketing leaving the needy people hay and sundry. He said it was most unfortunate common people in the state have been left at the mercy of the whims of air line operators and the whole administration was looking as mute spectators while urging Governor to intervene in the matter to redress the grievances of the hapless people in this regard. He said Government should immediately subsidize air fares between Srinagar to Jammu and vice versa till the NH, which is under construction for its 4-laning, becomes stable and traffic worthy. “It will be a great people friendly measure,” Hakeem Yaseen observed.
