Hakeem Yaseen condemns pellet firing on journalists

Jammu, Jan 24 (KNS): Former Minister and Chairman Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) Hakeem Yaseen has strongly condemned the concerned authorities for ill treatment to the duty performing journalists in Kashmir.
He has expressed great sorrow over injury caused to photojournalists including Waseem Andrabi of Hindustan Times, Nisar Ul Haq of Rising Kashmir, Mir Burhan of ANN and Kaisar Mir of Kashmir crown due to pellet shelling in Shopian.
Terming the matter as grave, Hakeem Yaseen in a statement issued to KNS has expressed his serious concern over the way authorities are blocking functioning of media persons in the field on one pretext or the over every now and then just to stop them from performing their professional duties in the conflict zone especially in Kashmir.
He said ill treatment to media, also called as forth pillar of democracy, was a matter of big shame adding that authorities at the helm of affairs should fix responsibility on the culprits involved in the ugly incident.
He said media and freedom of expression in Kashmir was under constant threat and intimidation since 1990. He has urged the Governor administration to ensure adequate safety and security for the working journalists so that they could perform their professional duty without any threat and difficulty.
