Srinagar, Aug 30 (KNS): After assuming charge as the head of the Jammu and Kashmir government, the newly appointed Governor Satya Pal Malik on Thursday met top civil administration and police officials at the Civil Secretariat here.
One of the top government officials told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that soon after the Governor was presented Guard of Hounor here in the civil secretariat by the contingent of Jammu and Kashmir Police, he held discussions with his advisors and Chief Secretary and identified the major tasks which shall require to be dealt with on a strict time-bound basis.
The official said that later Governor chaired a meeting of top officials both from civil administration and police to gear up the state administrative machinery to function with speed, efficiency and accountability.
“The Governor categorically told the officials that his major task is the overall development of all the three regions of state,” the official maintained.
However the official said that the Governor was concerned over lapsing of funds as officials were not making timely utilization of funds.
“The non-seriousness of the officials was resulting lapsing of funds. If funds are released, then the concerned officials will be responsible for any lapse,” quoting Governor the official said.
Sources said that Governor directed all the Administrative secretaries for timely utilization of funds and ask them to fix the responsibility if funds were allowed to lapse.
Sources said that the governor also urged the officials to ensure success of projects drawn up for general public by the government, and also directed authorities not to tolerate any corrupt official and take stern action against those found guilty.
“The government has already made known its resolve on development works and it will not tolerate any laxity on the part of the officials and the employees,” the Governor has said.
“To ensure proper implementation of government schemes and actual delivery of services to the people, it is important that all the supervisory officers, right from the heads of the departments to block level extension functionaries undertake intensive field visits,” according to sources, the Governor has said.
Sources further told KNS that the Governor has also said that corruption would not be tolerated and stern action would be taken in any graft-related issue. “Strict action must be taken against those negligent officers and employees who deprive people from availing benefits of government schemes and from supply of public services.”
Sources said that Governor has also sought the support of officers in field to ensure a clean, prompt and result oriented governance to people, particularly those living in far off, hilly and disadvantageous areas of the State.
Sources said that Governor also directed the heads of the departments to submit report to the government on implementation of government schemes.
Sources said that the governor also Directed DCs, assistant commissioners’ development, block development officers that the works authorized taken up during the current year and for which the funds stand released are lapsable shall be utilized immediately. (KNS)
