Srinagar, Nov 12 (KNS): The government has left key positions vacant in the administration leaving people to face lot of difficulties. Despite weeks having passed since the retirement or transfer of the officers, these positions are yet to be filled by eligible officers.
Important posts of Administrative Secretary Revenue Department and Regional Transport Officer, Kashmir, are yet to be filled by the government after retirement of former commissioner secretary Mohammad Ashraf Mir and transfer of Farooq Ahmad as RTO.
Mir retired in October 11 while RTO Ahmad was transferred and posted as Chief Executive Officer, Integrated Watershed Management Programme, J&K, against an available vacancy.
Minister of Transport Sunil Sharma did not reply to repeated calls from KNS while minister for revenue A R Veeri was not available for his comments.
Officials said that besides hampering working of these departments, key decisions have been delaying and also public faces lot of problems in redressal of their issues.
The officials said the delay has occurred as the Government has failed to set-up Cabinet Committee to deal with the transfers of senior IAS and KAS officers.
Important decisions on policy matters and financial aspects are taken by the Administrative Secretary of the concerned department in consultation with the Minister Incharge or on the directions from the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary. And in absence of the revenue secretary, all the issues are pending.
And without RTO, transporters said, their issues have mounted in the RTO office in Srinagar.
“Also, the budget formulation is in process, so empty positions means no forward movement on that account as well,” the officials said. (KNS)
