Srinagar, Apr 04 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference vice president and former chief minister Omar Abdullah today asked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government to review its decision regarding the closure of national highway.

As per Kashmir News Service (KNS), talking to reporters, Omar said national highway is not any inner small road that you can close. “It is a highway you can’t close it like this. You have made a mess in Jammu and Kashmir and now when you have failed you have started closing main roads. It will further extend miseries of people,” Omar said.

Omar said they had been fighting against militancy for the last 30 years, but it was never felt the need to close the highway. “Should we accept the fact now that Modi and his government has ruined the security situation of the state to the worst in the last 30 years. Modi should accept now that his Kashmir policy has worsened to the extreme the situation in the state,” he said. Omar said he has fought many elections in Kashmir. I fought elections in 1999. We have seen much worse times. We had seen car bomb blast on assembly. But we never felt to close the national highway,” he said.

Omar suggested the central and the state governments to immediately review the decision. “If need be, arrange special trains for the security forces from Banihal to Baramulla,” NC vice president said.

Omar held PDP responsible for the prevailing situation in Kashmir. “This all started happening again after 2014. The violence started increasing, Governor’s rule was imposed. It all started after 2014 otherwise we had brought situation to a very normal,” Omar added. (KNS)
