Srinagar, Oct 15 (KNS): As the state government had announced one month additional salary to the government employees deputed on poll duty during the ongoing Urban and Panchayat elections, the police department here said that there is no information from the government that whether they will also be paid one month extra salary or not.
The Chief Secretary of the state B.V.R. Subrahmanyam had announced a month's salary as incentive to employees deputed for election duty. However there was no clarification from the Chief Secretary regarding the incentives to the police department.
The general opinion of the police forces who are involved in the polling duty is that they should be paid the extra month salary like other state government employees. “We are more involved than any government employee in this election process. Though our Job is to protect people, but government should consider one month extra salary to all those police officers/ officials who are on poll duty,” wished not to be named one of the police officials told KNS.
Principal Secretary to Government, Home Department, RK Goyal told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that they have to check the order which was issued by the government. “We have to check who is covered in the government order regarding extra one month salary” he told this KNS correspondent.
The Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh told KNS that till date they have not received any order from the government. “We have not received any order in this regard.” The DGP said.
It is to mention here that the Jammu and Kashmir Government has decided to release an additional salary of one month for those employees who will participate in upcoming Urban Local Bodies and Panchayat poll duties.
They have also decided to increase the pay of Special Police Officers (SPOs).
Before the start of the elections this was stated by Chief Secretary B V R Subrahmanyam during the press conference at Banquet Hall Srinagar.
He had said the employees who will perform poll duty will get an additional one month salary.
The ULB polls are underway while Panchayat polls will be held in eight phases on dates: 17, 20, 24, 27, 29 November and 01, 04, 08 and 11 December.
In Panchayat elections, 5812429 people can cast their vote in 4490 Panchayat Halqas.
The government has also promising massive monetary support to all elected members.
The government had also announced sops for everybody who will participate or help in conducting elections and incentivized the whole process.
So far the government has succeeded to conduct this election. It has not been able to conduct any elections since April 2017, when the Srinagar parliamentary by-poll recorded a meager turnout of around 7%. Subsequently, the by-poll to the Anantnag seat was postponed and hasn’t been conduct. Panchayat elections were scheduled in 2016 and were delayed after the killing of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani along with his two colleagues.
As per the election commission of the state, around 15,000 government officials were required to conduct the elections. (KNS)
