Govt removes JK Bank Chairman, follows with Vigilance raids

Srinagar, Jun 08 (KNS): Minutes after the Governor administration removed the J&K Bank Chairman Parvez Ahmad Nengroo, it's anti-corruption bureau (ACB) sleuths raided the Bank Headquarters at Dalgate Srinagar and confiscated files from Human Resource and the office of the chairman for probe.

Sources said the sleuths of the ACB raided the bank's Human Resource department and the office of the chairman about to probe the files relating to the recruitment of nearly 1200 Banking Associates during the PDP-BJP government.

The bank faced public backlash and allegations of fraud recruitment of the BAs during the former government.

The governor administration removed the chairman and as per an order issued by the Finance department today, R K Chhibber has been appointed as interim chairman cum Managing Director of the Board.

The order says that Parvez Ahmad Chairman cum Mnnaging Director shall cease to be Director on the Board of Directors of the Bank and consequently be no longer the chairman cum MD of the board.

"R K Chhibber is hereby nominated as the Director on the Board and may be further appointed as the interim Chairman cum Managing director of the Board," the order says.

However, the public chorus grew after the removal of the chairman and ACB raids.
Many people supported the JK bank but demanded transparency in the Bank's functioning.

JKPM president Shah Faesal hailed the governor's decision to remove the chairman.

"Good that J&K Government has started clean-up of J&K Bank. In recent times this important State institution has been in news for all the wrong reasons."

He said the Government should take all measures to strengthen the Bank, bring in transparency & continue with District-wise recruitment.

BJP spokesman Altaf Thakur posted: Now it is J&K Bank instead of apna bank.

Many users wrote that the bank bid the economic backbone of the state and targeting it means "harming us all". (KNS)
