Srinagar, Nov 30 (KNS): In order to comply with NGT guidelines, the government is mulling to use twenty percent of total waste collection that comprises of polythene and plastic material has to be utilised in cement industries and brick kilns as fuel as per the solid waste management rules 2016.
A meeting was held which was presided over by Pradeep Singh, Advisor to Chief Minister where the Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) and plastic waste management one of the components of Solid waste management was discussed at line and length.
Commissioner SMC Riyaz Ahmed Wani, Director Urban Local Bodies Manzoor Ahmed Sofi, Imtiyaz Ali from Sarthak NGO, Anuj Malhotra Traffic Advisor to Government of J&K, Dr Saheem State Pollution Control Board and representatives from NIIT, JK Cements, Khyber, Saifco and Dawer Cements, Brick Kiln association, Members from NGO Basix, Envosaviours, Distributers of True Green Firm and consultant Solid waste management were present in the meeting.
Pradeep Singh directed that an MOU needs to be signed which shall have members from SMC ,ULB, CM Grievance Cell, a member from rural Sanitation as well and the various Cement plants both Government and Private Enterprises need to come forward and chalk out a strategic plan for the proper utilisation of this RDF in cement factories and Brick Kilns.
He further emphasized that SMC and ULB should be fully equipped in a systematic manner in order to make RDF available in to bales whereas for technical intervention various Enterprises has to play a part in the process and reputed consultant needs to be hired in the first instance.
The officials from a local Sarthak NGO working in collaboration with Bhopal Municipal Corporation gave a power point presentation on the plastic waste collection and management.
The presentation projected the training imparted to the Sarthak Karmis to enhance their skills and practices to handle waste reprocessing units and to introduce the relevant technologies for efficient management of plastic waste in Bhopal city in partnership with different stake holders.
True Green Firm from Gujarat also gave the power point presentation on usage of compostable plastic bags as a substitute of Plastic bags. (KNS)
