EC to take final call after its on spot assessment of security situation

Srinagar, Feb 21 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Government has though conveyed its inability to hold Lok Sabha and assembly elections simultaneously in Jammu and Kashmir in April this year but Election Commission has decided to take a final call only after visiting the state for on spot assessment of the security situation in the first week of March.
Top sources while disclosing this to KNS revealed that though both Jammu and Kashmir Home Department and the Governor’s Secretariat have conveyed their inability to hold Lok Sabha and assembly elections simultaneously but the Election Commission India has decided to visit Jammu and Kashmir in the first week of March before taking a final call on holding Lok Sabha and assembly elections simultaneously or separately.
The Jammu and Kashmir Home department and Governor’s Secretariat have conveyed the post Lethpora attack security situation a reason for their inability to hold Lok Sabha and assembly elections simultaneously as almost three times more forces personnel are required for assembly elections than the assembly elections.
"Against less than 100 candidates for Lok Sabha election the government will have to provide security to not less than 900 candidates for assembly elections" said sources, adding that 'the security situation in Kashmir valley in the aftermath of the recent militant attack on a CRPF convoy of over forty buses has thrown up huge challenges on multiple security fronts in Kashmir valley".
Sources also said that a team of Election Commission of India (ECI) will likely visit Jammu and Kashmir for on spot assessment of the security situation after receiving a written report from Union Home Ministry in the first week of March and take a final call on holding Lok Sabha and assembly elections simultaneously or separately accordingly.
