Srinagar, Feb 11 (KNS): As the light rain and snowfall occurred in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday breaking the nearly two-month long dry spell, government says the men and machinery has been kept on alert to tackle with the snowfall aftermath.
Chief Engineer Mechanical Rameesh Bhal while talking to KNS said that 170 snow clearing machines were kept ready during the Thursday snowfall and that almost all road links in Kashmir have been restored to the large extent.
Bhal said that apart from eth snow clearance machines, 20 control rooms have been set up to assist people at eth present situation.
According to KNS correspondent, Peer Ki Gali witnessed the six feet snowfall while Donjan and Zawura were under 4 feet of snow.
Deputy Commissioner Shopian said the administration is striving to restore the electricity and road connectivity in district’s far flung areas and upper reaches. He maintained that power supplies in some areas of the district has affected and that the measures are being taken to restore the supply.
Meanwhile Chief Engineer Mechanical told KNS that the road links of Yusmarg and Chrar-e-Shareef have been cleared from snow despite these areas witnessing snowfall since morning.
Furthermore, the tourist resort Gulmarg received 20 cm of fresh snowfall during the night while Pahalgam and Bannihal received eight and four centimeters of fresh snowfall respectively.
Trikuta Hills in the Jammu region also received light snowfall during the night.
Whether department has stated that the present weather conditions are likely to continue during the next 24 hours after which there would be improvement.
The snowfall has caused a sudden dip in the temperatures with Ladakh region, Leh town recorded minus 4.2 while Kargil town recorded minus 4.0 as the minimum temperature on Thursday. (KNS)
