Srinagar, Jan 12 (KNS): The state government on Friday said it hasn’t yet decided over where to establish the recently announced 17 Government Degree Colleges in the state and that the modalities over the issues are being chalked out.
The Minister of Education in a written reply to MLA Mohammad Yusuf Bhat over the establishment of the degree colleges in the state said that the government is yet to decide the locations of the 17 new degree colleges in the state and same is being discussed by the department of higher education.
Opening of the 17 new degree colleges was approved recently by the state cabinet and it was stated that these colleges will be established in the uncovered areas of the state. “The locational details for setting up of the newly sanctioned colleges are being worked out by the department. It will be an endeavour of the department that the academic activities in these colleges are started as soon as possible,” the minister submitted in his written reply.
It was added further that the priority shall be accorded to uncovered assembly segments which are at present devoid of such facility.
The state cabinet on October 25, last year had approved creation of 17 new colleges in the state and had also approved up gradation of 400 government schools— 200 middle schools and 200 high schools— to their next level.
The cabinet also at that time approved creation of 8200 teachers’ posts for these colleges and schools. (KNS)
