Asks GoI to refrain from opposing bail pleas of NIA detainees

Srinagar, May 21 (KNS): Demanding the release of political prisoners and those held by NIA, Democratic Party Nationalist (DPN) president and former minister Ghulam Hassan Mir has said that the Ramadhan ceasefire is a welcome step and is being taken as a positive gesture from government of India but said that there are many other political issues that need to be addressed.
Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), G H Mir questioned that when murder accused are being granted bail, why shouldn’t the Kashmiri separatist leaders under NIA custody be granted the same. He said it is beyond understanding that why Union Home Ministry is opposing the bail applications of those who have been held by NIA. Mir added that by the time the pending cases against the separatist leaders in NIA reach their logical conclusion the government of India must consider not opposing their bail applications as a Confidence Building Measure.
The former minister also demanded that those political prisoners who are not involved in heinous crimes should be released. (KNS)
