Road clearance work on, say officials

Srinagar, Dec 07 (KNS): After receiving a fresh snowfall, the authorities here have closed the Srinagar-Leh highway since the intervening night of Wednesday-Thursday, officials said on Thursday.
Officials in the Traffic Control Room told KNS that in view of the slippery condition of the roads triggered due to the fresh snowfall, the Srinagar-Leh highway has been closed.
Officials informed that Sonamarg, Zojila, Meenamarg and other areas received a snowfall of about three inches. “Following the slippery conditions of thwe raods, the highway was closed,” he said.
He informed that the men and machinery has been pressed to clear the roads. “The highway will be reopened after the clearance work,” he said.
Earlier, the local Meteorological Department (MeT) had predicted moderate to heavy rains and snow across Jammu and Kashmir from Dec 11 to Dec 15, saying that a Western Disturbance would likely hit the state from Dec 11 onwards. (KNS)
