Forests officer ‘assaulted’ by subordinates in Handwara

Handwara, Dec 15 (KNS): The Range Officer (RO) of Rajwar Forest Range in Handwara was allegedly assaulted by his subordinates on Saturday.
RO Rajwar, Altaf Ahmad told KNS he had transferred two employees of the Range after receiving complaints that the duo was having alleged nexus with the timber smugglers. “Recently I seized 200 cfts of illicit timber along with a portable bandsaw at Shahlal, Handwara. This infuriated the duo and they attacked me in my office,” he claimed.
The RO said there was huge damage in the compartments where the two employees were posted. He said he has registered a case against the accused employees at Police Station Handwara.
SDPO Handwara Tariq Mehmood while confirming the incident said FIR No 323 u/s 353, 506B of 2019 has been registered and investigation are on. The accused will be arrested soon.
Conservator Forests (CF) north circle, Irfan Rasool said he has asked the concerned DFO to submit a report into the incident till Monday. “Action will be initiated to the accused persons on the basis of the DFO’s report. Such kind of indiscipline won’t be tolerated,” told KNS. (KNS)
