Forest department seizes two vehicles with illicit timber in Anantnag

Srinagar, Mar 04 (KNS): Two vehicles loaded with illicit timber were seized by forest department in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday.
According to Kashmir News Service correspondent under the directions of DFO Lidder, Dr Mehraj U Din a special naka was laid by forest department comprising of Range Officer Control room, Range Officer Bijbehra along with twenty other employee a truck (JK08D 8781) carrying willow clefts was intercepted at Subhanpora National Highway.
However the driver of the vehicle managed to escape from the site.
An official of forest department told KNS that approximate cost of these willow clefts would be around 70 Lakhs in national market, he said the vehicle has been sized and the manhunt has been launched to nab the smugglers.
He further said the loaded truck was coming from Srinagar and was on its way to Jalander, the officer said.
Meanwhile a Tata mobile vehicle was also seized by the forest division lidder with illicit timber near Futmura seer and the driver of the vehicle has been arrested.
A forest officer said on specific information a naka was laid during which a vehicle with illicit timber was seized and driver was arrested.
Meanwhile the senior officials of the department have hailed the efforts of the forest division Lidder for swift action against the timber smugglers in the area (KNS).
