Party gears up for Dec 2 presidential polls, functionaries start camping in Jammu

 Srinagar, Nov 30 (KNS): More than 300 functionaries of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party, its legislators and parliament members are all set to elect the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti as the party president on December 2, this year.
As per the initial reports received by the Kashmir News Service (KNS), the PDP functionaries have started reaching Jammu in hordes and are set remain camped in state’s winter capital till party’s presidential polls are held at Banquet Hall. The poling with start at 11 in the Morning on Sunday- December 2 and the results shall be declared on the same day. PDP veteran and Minister Abdul Rahman Veeri has been designated as the Returning Officer while Fallail Singh will discharge the duties of the Election Obeservor.
PDP insiders divulge that the party has unanimously decided to elect the chief minister Mehboba Mufti as the party president.
Those who will vote during the elections include one Lok Sabha member two Rajya Sabha members of the PDP, party MLAs, MLCs, district and zonal presidents and senior functionaries including general secretaries and state secretaries of the PDP. The total vote count is estimated to be 300 in number.
As the chief minister is all set to get unanimously elected as the party president, it will be the 6th time in a row since 2003 that Mehbooba Mufti will hold the top chair in the PDP.
The presidential polls within the party are held after three years and for the first time they were held in the year 2003. (KNS)
