Srinagar, Jan 28 (KNS): The first round of Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) programme-2018 was held across the Kashmir Division during which thousands of children under the age of five years were administered vaccines to prevent them from crippling polio disease.
Elaborate arrangements were made by the respective district administrations to carry out the anti-polio drive successfully for which polio booths were set up and health workers were deployed at the block, Tehsil and district levels across the Division.
At Srinagar, Deputy Commissioner Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah launched the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization programme in the district in which children up to the age of 5 are being administered poliomyelitis vaccines.
The programme was launched at the Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial (JLNM) Hospital at Rainawari here where the DC administered polio drops to several children.
Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman, CMO Srinagar, Dr Dildar Ahmad Mir, District Health Officer, Dr Anjum Qadri, and District Immunization Officer, Dr Masarat Jabeen, were also present on the occasion.
The DC also visited several other locations, including Gousia Hospital at Khanyar and a transit booth at Parimpora set up for the homeless, on the occasion and took stock of arrangements for the immunization programme there.
It was said that a total of 660 pulse polio booths have been set up in the district across all its seven medical zones targeting a population of 1,87,173 children up to age 5, adding that 2600 workers and 133 supervisors have been deployed for the job.
At Baramulla, District Development Commissioner, Dr Nassir Ahmad Naqash accompanied by CMO Baramulla, Dr Bashir Ahmad Chalkoo inaugurated the pulse polio immunization drive by administering oral polio vaccine to a newborn baby at the District Hospital here.
Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Jozi Bashir, Deputy Medical Superintended, District Immunization Officer, DMEIO, and other officials were present on the occasion.
It was informed that a total of 157326 children shall be immunized during the Ist phase of the IPPI programme in the district, for which 870 vaccination booths have been put in place. Around 786 teams have been deployed including 3313 health, ASHA, and Aganwari workers. Besides, various Transit Camps and several Mobile camps have also been established across the district for places like railway stations and Bus Addas.
At Anantnag, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Mohammad Younis Malik inaugurated the anti-polio drive at Maternity and Child Care Hospital (MCCH) here.
CMO Anantnag Dr Syed Mirjee Indrabi, Deputy Superintendent MCCH and other officers of the Health Department were present on the occasion.
As many as 136014 children in the age group of 0-5 years are being covered under the IPPI-2018 phase first. The Health Department has set up 650 pulse polio vaccination booths and deployed 2572 employees including 1181 health workers, 783 Asha workers, 130 supervisors, 438 Anganwari workers, 45 officials from Education Department 15 volunteers and 110 students for successfully carrying out the campaign.
The IPPI programme was also held at SDH Bijbehara, SDH Shangus and Dooru and medical blocks of Achabal, Mattan, Verinag and Serigufwara.
At Kulgam, Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Talat Parvaiz today inaugurated the IPPI programme by giving anti-polio vaccines to newly-born babies in District Hospital here.
As many as 88540 children in the age bracket of 0-5 years are being covered under the programme.The Health Department has set up 508 pulse polio booths in the district for which 1116 health workers, 645 ASHA workers, 367 Anganwari workers and 101 supervisors have been deployed on duty.
The pulse polio immunization programme was also held at various medical blocks of Kulgam, Yaripora, D. H. Pora, Qazigund and Quimoh.
At Budgam, The first phase of the anti-polio campaign was kicked-off by District Development Commissioner, Mohammad Harun Malik today at ASYM, District Hospital, by administering vaccines to children below five years-of-age along with Chief Medical Officer, Budgam, Medical Superintendent and other hospital staff.
During the campaign, 103359 children up to 5 years-of-age shall be covered under the pulse polio immunization programme in the district for which 2429 officials comprising health workers, ASHA workers, ICDS workers and voluntaries were deployed at 622 booths including nine transit booths, 57 hard-to-reach area booths and two slums in 10 medical blocks of Budgam.
At Bandipora, District Development Commissioner, Sajad Hussain inaugurated the first round of national pulse polio programme in the district today. He administered the anti-polio vaccine to two kids including one who was born previous night at the District Hospital here.
Deputy CMO Dr Parvaiza Kowsar, BMO Dr Syed Ur Rehman besides medical and para-medical staff was also present.
It was said that 65052 children under the age of five years are being covered under the first phase of the programme in the district, for which 340 immunization booths and 7 transit points have been established. As many as 1360 employees including Health Workers, ASHAs and Aanganwari workers have been engaged while as 89 supervisors will monitor the whole process.
At Pulwama, Chief Medical Officer Pulwama, Dr Talat Jabeen today inaugurated pulse polio immunization programme at District Old Hospital Pulwama.
Around 472 booths which have been set up in different areas across the district and vaccines and other related material has already been dispatched. It was given out that around 534 ASHA workers, 573 Anganwari workers, 759 Health workers, and 95 supervisors have been deployed on duty for achieving cent percent target.
At Ganderbal, Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Dr Piyush Singla kick-started the IPPI programme at District Hospital here by administering the anti-polio drops to a newborn baby.
It was said that 3.27 lakh children up to 5 years-of-age are being covered under the programme for which 232 polio booths have been established in the district, while as 944 employees and 47 supervisors were engaged in the process, besides 05 mobile teams were deployed to achieve the cent percent target under IPPI in the district.
At Shopian, the first round of Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization programme was kick-started by District Development Commissioner, Mohammad Aijaz here by administering oral vaccines to newborns.
It was said that as many as 43371 children falling under 0-5 year age group shall be covered under the anti-polio campaign. For successful conduct of the drive, 215 vaccination booths, 07 transit camps, 11 mobile teams along with 42 supervisors, 3 district monitors teams were deployed across the district.
At Kupwara, District Development Commissioner, Khalid Jahangir today launched the anti-polio drive at District Hospital here by administering pulse polio drops to new born babies along with CMO Kupwara, BMO, Medical Superintendent, and other hospital staff.
The CMO Kupwara said that around 136262 children up to 5 years-of-age shall be targeted under the first phase of IPPI drive for which 728 booths have been established with manpower of 2920 employees from different departments besides 52 medical supervisors and 146 medical teams were deployed for the successful conduct of the drive.
At Kargil, Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) programme was today launched in Kargil in which thousands of children under the age group of 0 to 5 years were administered polio drops at pulse polio centres.
Executive Councillor for Health Muhammad Hussain and Deputy Commissioner Haji Gulzar Hussain kick-started the campaign by administering polio drops to newborn babies at District Hospital here.
As many as 382 vaccination booths have been set up in different parts of the district to vaccinate 18940 children from 0 to 5 years while as 50 supervisors and 1000 health workers, Ashas, Anganwari workers and other personnel have been deployed to carry out the vaccination campaign.
Vaccines were already dispatched to all blocks and snowbound areas of the district including Drass and Zanskar.
Chief Medical Officer Kargil Dr Ibrahim Khan, Deputy CMO, Medical Superintendent Kargil, District Social Welfare Officer, Child Development Project Officer Kargil, Consultant Child Specialist besides doctors and paramedics were present on the occasion. (KNS)
