Stresses on waste segregation on scientific lines

Srinagar, Feb 06 (KNS): Financial Commissioner to Housing and Urban Development Department (H&UDD) K.B Agarwal today visited various areas of Srinagar city to review sanitation and ongoing developmental works undertaken by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC).
Agarwal, who toured several areas of the city including Rakhe Aarat, Bemna Shehjar apartments, Karan Nagar, Safa Kadal, Saiki Dafar, and Tibetan colony, was accompanied by Commissioner SMC Riyaz Ahmed Wani, Vice Chairman LAWDA, Vice Chairman Srinagar Development Authority, Chief Engineer UEED, Director Urban Local Bodies, Director Floriculture and Senior Municipal Officers of Corporation.
The financial commissioner visited Shalteng drainage scheme, Mallagagh,
Indra Nagar, Lal Chowk and other drainage projects in city to take stock of various ongoing works.
During his visit, he issued instructions to expedite the ongoing works and ensure their timely completion. Agarwal also stressed on need of improvising overall Sanitation of the city.
The financial commissioner also paid visit to municipal landfill site at Achan. The SMC officials here briefed him about the various scientific steps being taken for improvisation of garbage management at the site and mechanism of recently installed waste segregator.
Agarwal while stressing on the segregation of the waste into biodegradable and non-biodegradable, directed SMC officials to ensure that segregation takes place at the source across the city gradually and in a phased manner.
Later the financial commissioner also took up an extensive meeting with all senior officers of the corporation here at Municipal Central Office Karan Nagar.
Commissioner SMC on the occasion gave a detailed presentation where in all the functions of the corporation including the various projects under AMRUT and other various steps being taken under different components were discussed threadbare. (KNS)
