ECI calls J&K CEO for meeting on JK polls, likely to announce poll schedule by Jan end

Srinagar, Jan 07 (KNS): The Election Commission of India (ECI) has called Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer Shailendra Kumar for a meeting on holding assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir on January 11 and is likely to take final call after consultations with union home ministry and Jammu and Kashmir government on the security and other poll related arrangements.
Top sources while disclosing this to Kashmir News Service revealed that Election Commission of India has called Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer Shailendra Kumar for a meeting on holding Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir on January 11 during which the chief electoral officer will brief the election commission of India on the prevailing situation and a conducive atmosphere for holding Lok Sabha and assembly elections simultaneously in the state.
As already reported chief electoral officer recently told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the state election authorities are ready to hold elections anytime in Jammu and Kashmir state and even in the month of February.
During a debate on imposition of presidents rule in the state the union home minister Rajnath Singh told Parliament that the central government has no objection if the assembly and Lok Sabha elections are held in Jammu and Kashmir and made it clear that it is for the election commission to take a final call. Rajnath Singh in his statement on the floor of Lok Sabha said that the central government would provide all the security arrangements required for holding assembly and Lok Sabha elections simultaneously but a final call has to be taken by the elections commission of India.
