Visits various Children’s Homes; Takes stock of work on Eklavya Model School at Aharbal, Gujar Hostel at Amnoo

Kulgam, Oct 20 (KNS): Secretary, Social Welfare, Tribal Affairs & Cooperatives, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone today reviewed the functioning of Social Welfare Department, Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) and ICDS with field officers of Anantnag and Kulgam districts here today.
Director General Social Welfare, Mission Director ICDS, Mission Director ICPS, Chairperson Child Welfare Committee, District Program Officers, District Social Welfare Officers, CDPOs of the twin districts attended the meeting.
The Secretary Social Welfare took a comprehensive review of the social security pension schemes, marriage assistance scheme, scholarship schemes, Laadli Beti, PMMVY, ICDS and ICPS schemes.
He directed for effective and transparent implementation of these welfare schemes so that the deserving underprivileged get benefitted.
Secretary along with concerned officers visited Markaz-e-Itfal Manzgam and directed for immediate improvement in facilities to the inmates. He asked the Mission Director OCPS to provide 30 beds for inmates. He also called for urgently preparing the estimates for renovation of the children home.
The Secretary also visited NGO-run children’s home Baitul Hilal at Chawalgam and appreciated the facilities being provided to the inmates.
Dr Lone visited Tangmarg,Aharbal to take stock of the progress on construction of Eklavya Model Residential School being constructed by the Tribal Affairs Department.
The Secretary was informed that the Academic Block and Boys and Girls Hostels are nearing completion and Rs 12 crore have been released so far to the executing agency R&B Department.
Dr Lone directed the Executive Engineer R&B to ensure early completion of the project so that it starts functioning from next academic session.
Later, the Secretary also inspected the under-construction Gujjar hostel at Amnoo Kulgam and called for expediting the work. (KNS)
