Srinagar, Sep 22 (KNS): The mainstream political parties here on Saturday termed the cancellation of meeting between foreign ministers of India and Pakistan as ‘unfortunate’, saying that the two neighbouring countries must sit to end sufferings of Jammu and Kashmir people.
Talking to Kashmir news Service (KNS), Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief, G A Mir said that the dialogue was the only option to resolve issues.
“Dialogue at any time is the only way to resolve the issues but at the same time, both the countries need to create peaceful atmosphere for the talks,” he said, adding that talks are the only way to end violence.
He said that Pakistan should sincerely put forth its offer for talks and India should also reciprocate to resolve the issues.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief spokesperson, Rafi Ahmad Mir while talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS) termed the cancellation of meeting as ‘unfortunate event;, saying that such unfortunate events are happening from last five years.
“The talks were cancelled several times in the past due to some reasons including Pathankot, Mumbai blast, parliament attack and others. I believe that those who are in the helm of affairs should go forward so that the violence level may come to an end,” he said.
He added that there may be some element in any part of the two sides who is against the talks but to eradicate that factor, the leadership of both the countries should come forward and take tough decision for the wellbeing of people.
“Instead of claiming to act tough against opponents, I think they should say that they will go for talks against all odds,” he said, adding that if both the countries feel pain of JK people then they would have think ten times before cancelling the talks.
CPI (M) senior leader and MLA Kulgam, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami said that it is ‘strange and unfortunate’ that talks between foreign ministers of India and Pakistan have been called off.
“Dialogue between the two countries is essential to imitate a peace process in the region. Closing off avenues for talks can only encourage disruptive forces,” Tarigami said.
He said that the policy of confrontation has only resulted in adding to woes and miseries of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “Whatever the excuses the fact remains that the dialogue between the two countries is the only option to resolve the issues,” he said.
Pertinently, India called off meeting between EAM Sushma Swaraj with her Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi in New York, report said.
Citing killing of three policemen in Jammu and Kashmir, MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar Friday says in the present circumstances, any meeting with Pakistan will be “meaningless”. (KNS)
