Low voltage, half hourly evening power cuts irks consumers

Srinagar, Oct 16 (KNS): Days before the closure of move offices in Srinagar and their shifting to winter capital Jammu, the power fluctuations have virtually plunged the entire Kashmir valley including summer capital Srinagar into darkness as unscheduled power cuts in the morning and evening hours have been enforced in both urban and rural areas of Kashmir valley.
A legion of aggrieved power consumers told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that power voltage has drastically come down and unscheduled power cuts from dawn to dusk particularly in the morning and evening hours have reduced power availability to few hours. The dismal power distribution has irked consumers when board and university examinations are round the corner and children in lower classes are taking their examinations. The dismal power condition has also badly hit the business community.
Though Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam in a high level review meeting called by him to review the power supply during winters in valley exhorted the authorities of Power Development Department (PDD) to ensure hassle free power supply to consumers during winters in valley but the drastic reduction in power availability shows that power supply will come down to alarming levels in the coming chilly months of winter.
When contacted Chief Engineer PDD Kashmir Hashmat Qazi told KNS “we will ensure uninterrupted power supply this winter but smooth flow of power supply is possible only if people don’t put extra load on power transformers and cooperate in judicious use of power in peak hours. The department has constituted flying squads for regulating the judicious use of power in peak hours in the populated areas.” (KNS)
