Remembers martyrs of Handwara, Kupwara

Srinagar, Jan 23 (KNS): Calling for observing the Indian Republic Day as Black Day, and remembering the martyrs of Handwara and Kupwara on their death anniversaries, the Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has said that the carnages at Gawkadal, Handwara and Kupwara remind us of Indian brutal occupation and oppression.
Around two hundred civilians were butchered by the Indian forces from Jan 21 to Jan 27 in 1990 in Srinagar, Handwara and Kupwara.
The massacre of Gawkadal on Jan 21, 1990 was followed by massacres at Handwara and Kupwara on Jan 25 and Jan 27, respectively where around one hundred and fifty unarmed Kashmiris were gunned down by Indian forces without any provocation.
Remembering the martyrs of Kashmir the DFP said that days like 21st Jan, 25th Jan and 27th Jan 1990 remind us of sacrifices rendered by our loved ones. These are the days for renewal and reiteration of our commitments and today while recalling these great sacrifices we reiterate our pledge to take forward the mission of martyrs till the achievement of the desired goal.
The nation is indebted to martyrs who laid down their lives for freedom so we all must pledge to continue the peaceful struggle till the achievement of the goal of freedom.
Calling to observe the 26th Jan as Black Day, by complete shutdown, DFP said that India has no right to celebrate the day as it is busy in brutally crushing a democratic movement of Kashmiri people and it is using every undemocratic means to crush and kill the people of Kashmir. India is also silencing the voices of Kashmiris by jailing their genuine leadership like Shabir Ahmad Shah and it has been using its all institutions against the unarmed and peace loving Kashmiri people who are only demanding for the fulfillment of the promises made to them at local and international levels.
