Curfew relaxed in South, north Jammu

Srinagar, Feb 19 (KNS): Authorities on the second consecutive day relaxed curfew from South and north areas of Jammu that continued for the fifth consecutive day today after the violent clashes post Lethpora attack on last Thursday.
Curfew was relaxed in Jammu south and north areas for over a couple of hours today. The relaxation in curfew was also given on Monday as well.
Curfew was relaxed in areas falling under police stations of Gandhi Nagar (except police post Nehru Park and Digiana), Channi Himmat, Sainik Colony, Trikuta Nagar and Satwari (except police posts of Belicharana and Gadighat) from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm yesterday and from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm in Jammu city, Nowabad and Peer Mitha on Tuesday.
“Curfew has been relaxed for two hours from 3 to 5 pm in the northern areas under Bus Stand, Bakshi Nagar, Pacca-Danga and Janipur police stations,” officials said, adding that in southern areas, curfew was relaxed for three-and-a-half hours from 3:30 pm to 7 pm in southern areas falling under Gandhi Nagar, Bagh-e-Bahu, Satwari, Channi Himmat, Gangyal and Trikuta Nagar police stations.
They said that restrictions under section 144 CrPC remained imposed to maintain law and order. However, till late evening the relaxation continued in Jammu areas while as officials said the situation has remained by and large peaceful.
Curfew was imposed in Jammu following massive protests over Lethpora attack in Pulwama district of south Kashmir on last Thursday.
All the examinations of Jammu University scheduled for today were postponed due to prevailing situation," officials said, adding that fresh dates will be announced soon.
Meanwhile, mobile internet services continued to remain suspended. (KNS)
