Culture of hate and impunity responsible for Delhi carnage: Masoodi

Srinagar, Mar 12 (KNS): National conference leader Hasnain Masoodi MP while participating in the discussion on Delhi riots said that the bloodshed witnessed by Delhi on 24th to 26th February was heart wrenching and highly condemnable not only for loss of life and property and irreparable loss to social fabric but more because those under an onerous and sacred duty to save life and property were found either shying away from their duty or assuming the role of accomplices.
A statement issued to KNS, Masoodi said that if eyewitness account of the carnage that appeared in print, electronic and social media tell us a story it is of serious omissions and commissions of law enforcing agencies. There are quite few instances where police personnel either joined rioters or encouraged and prodded them attack a particular community. The police personnel even insulted, humiliated and thrashed those who needed their protection most one of victims collapsed in such lethal assault. He reminded that all this did not happen all of sudden; that a climate of hate has been wilfully created over years and hate speech has not been punished. He said that the Government has promoted cultural of impunity. The abuses hurled day in and day out on a particular community are rewarded rather than reprimanded. One of the Ministers recently lamented, the statement said.
that a particular community was not chased out from the Country at the time of partition thus encouraging people to target the community. Taking exception to absence of those responsible for supervising enforcement of law and order and maintenance of peace and public order, from affected areas, Masoodi reminded that Gandhi ji on the eve of independence did not stay in Delhi to celebrate independence gained and his leadership but went to Noakhali to stop communal violence and saved precious lives. He said communal harmony, because of similar efforts of was in 1947 maintained in Kashmir
The effort was acknowledged by Gandhi ji. However the Government is busy deleting the name of the leader who ensured peace from landmarks associated with him and rewrite the history.
Masoodi demanded independent and impartial enquiry into Delhi riots and a rehabilitation scheme for victims (KNS)
