Srinagar, Aug 22 (KNS): A constable was Wednesday shot dead by the militants
in Awgam village of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Police spokesman identified the slain cop as Fayaz Ahmed Shah son of Abdul Rehman Shah.
He added that the militants fired at constable who was on leave and had gone to offer Eid prayers. “He died on spot,” police said in a statement issued to KNS.
“He was aged about 34 years and was a resident of Zazripora Kulgam. He is survived by two minor daughters aged 5 and 2 years, wife and an aged mother,” police spokesman added.
He said that police has registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation in the instant matter has been initiated.
Meanwhile, a wreath laying ceremony for the slain constable was held at District Police Line (DPL) Kulgam.
Senior police officers laid floral wreaths on the mortal remains of the slain cop.
Among those who laid wreaths and flowers included Senior Superintendent off Police (SSP) Kulgam, Harmeet Singh, all DySsP and cops of the district. (KNS)
