Congress stages walkout in both Houses over border skirmishes, daily wagers

Srinagar, Oct 09 (KNS): Opposition Congress legislators Friday staged walkout in both the Houses of the Legislature Friday after Speaker Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta and Chairman Legislative Council disallowed discussion on their adjournment motions on border skirmishes and daily wagers.
According to a KNS correspondent, as soon as the Question Hour proceedings started on sixth day of the ongoing autumn session of the Legislative Assembly, Congress legislators stood up from their seats and demanded discussion on their adjournment motions on cross border firing and on the rehabilitation of residents affected by the border skirmishes.
However, Speaker did not allow the discussion on the adjournment motion prompting Congress legislators to stage walkout only after the five minutes of the session began.
“We have moved an adjournment motion on important issues including border firing, victims of the border skirmishes as people on borders are living miserable life,” Congress senior leader and legislator G M Saroori said while demanding issue to be discussed on priority in the House.
However, speaker did not allow discussion and said that the matter has been already discussed. “We don’t need to discuss the issue as it has been discussed already,” said the speaker.
On it, congress legislators protested and staged walkout. However, protesting members rejoined the House proceedings only after staying off the session for around 10 minutes after Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed intervened and assured that the issues of the opposition would be discussed after the Question Hour.
“Whatever your grievances are you have conveyed them but Question Hour is Question Hour and such issues are not discussed during it. Your issues will be discussed after it,” said Mufti.
The assurances from the Leader of House pacified the opposition members who sat down with calm and Question Hour passed off peacefully. (KNS)
