Congress leader Urmila Matondkar to contest Lok Sabha elections from Mumbai North

Actor-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar, who joined the Congress party few days ago, will be contesting the Lok Sabha elections 2019 from Mumbai North parliamentary constituency of Maharashtra.

After joining the Congress party, Urmila Matondkar said she is here to stay and will not leave after the elections.

"I am here because I believe in the ideology of Congress and what the party stands for. I have not joined the party for the sake of elections," Urmila Matondkar said on her decision to join the Congress party.

"I have read a lot about Gandhi ji, Nehru ji. My family followed ideology of the Congress party," Urmila Matondkar said.

On her second day in politics, Urmila Matondkar made a series of allegations and questioned the Modi government and its policies.

"Personally, Modi is good, but his policies are not," Urmila Matondkar said on Thursday.

When asked why she did not raise the issue of intolerance earlier, Urmila Matondkar said that she did speak about the issue but the conversation was limited to family.

"Now that I have a platform, I will not speak within the four walls," she said, India Today reported.
