Srinagar, Aug 31 (KNS): The State Congress delegation led by its chief, Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Friday met with the newly appointed Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Satya Pal Malik in Srinagar.
The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) delegation discussed various issues pertaining to situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the sufferings of people.
According to the KNS correspondent, talking to reporters, Mir after meeting the Governor termed the present situation as ‘grim’ for the Panchayat and Municipal polls.
JKPCC chief further said that they urged the Governor to assess the situation prior to going for any democratic exercise. “Let the Governor led administration assess the ground situation prior to going for any polls following which the party will take its decision,” he said.
He also said that the Governor while hearing the delegation hinted that he was aware about the political situation and will try to end the sufferings of people. “If Governor will focus on sufferings of people then the party is ready to extend its support to him,” he said.
Asked about Article 35-A, Mir said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) used agencies to list the issue before the Supreme Court. “We believe that there will be no tempering with the Article 35-A. Besides, we believe that the BJP will continue to push for its deferment till the parliamentary elections to gather the votes,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mir condemned the security arrangements for the party delegations today, saying that the party was asked that they can’t go outside today and no security arrangements were made for the party. “I as a party chief condemn those whosoever has taken such decision as on contrary the BJP was given adequate security to meet the Governor on the same day,” he added.
