Police says case registered, investigation taken up

Srinagar, Mar 15 (KNS): A civilian was killed by suspected militants on late Thursday night in Gulzarpora area of Awantipora of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Police said that Manzoor Ahmad Lone, son of Gh Mohammad Lone of Dogripora aged about 40 years was killed by militants, saying that after visiting the spot, officers learnt that one individual was shot dead by the militants.
The body of the slain was later handed over to the family members following completion of medico-legal formalities.
Police said that initial investigations revealed that he was forcibly taken away by the militants and was later shot dead. “A case in this regard has been registered. Officers from the local police unit are investigating the circumstances which led to this incident,” police said.
Earlier, on Thursday late afternoon, a block president of National Conference identified as Muhammad Ismail was shot at by the suspected militants in Anantnag district who was undergoing treatment at Srinagar hospital. (KNS)
