Authorities issues Avalanche warning for higher parts

Srinagar, Jan 16 (KNS): Following the fresh snowfall in Kashmir valley, the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti reviews the situation and directed authorities to gear up for public convenience.
The authorities have also issued an avalanche warning for higher reaches of the Kashmir Valley.
Sources told KNS that the Chief Minister has got appraisal from the concerned officers about the snow clearance from the city roads and other district headquarters.
Sources said that the CM also took stock of availability of food grains and other essential commodities in the valley. “The CM was informed that snow cutter machine have been put in service in the all affected areas of the valley.The CM was also informed that sufficient quantity of food grains including rice, sugar, atta, k-oil besides LPG is available in the valley,” sources said.
Sources said that the chief Minister exhorted upon the divisional administration to redouble their efforts and provided all amenities to the people so that they do not suffer.
Meanwhile the authorities have issued an avalanche warning for higher reaches of the Kashmir Valley and Jammu region.
People living in these snowbound areas were asked to take precautions and not to venture on steep slopes.
Government sources told KNS that as most parts of Jammu and Kashmir experiencing fresh snowfall on Tuesday, authorities has issued a high and medium-danger avalanche warning for higher parts of the state asking people living there to avoid venturing into steep slopes during the next 24 hours.
"On the basis of information from SASE, the authorities has issued avalanche warning for hilly areas of Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Tangmarg and Khilanmarg in Gulmarg sector and higher reaches and Kargil in frontier region of Ladakh,” a government official said.
He said a medium danger warning has also been issued for higher reaches of Banihal, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu region, Pulwama and Kulgam in south and Budgam and Ganderbal districts in central Kashmir. “People living in these snowbound areas have been requested to take precautions and not to venture on steep slopes. The warning is valid for the next 24 hours,” the official said. (KNS)
