Say ‘will discuss once petition is filed, seek opinion of constitutional experts’

Srinagar, Sep 02 (KNS): Barring BJP all mainstream political parties including National Conference, PDP, Congress, Peoples' Democratic Front (PDF) and CPI (M) have welcomed the decision of Jammu & Kashmir Civil Society Coordination Committee (J&K CSCC) to file a petition for restoration of pre-1953 position to Jammu & Kashmir with the contention that they will discuss the issue and seek the opinion of leading constitutional experts on the matter.
Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), National Conference General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar said “National Conference has always raised strongly the voice for restoration of pre-1953 position at different forums and political conclaves. The party welcomes the decision of the J& K Civil Society Coordination Committee to file a petition for restoration of pre-1953 position to Jammu & Kashmir. We will sit and discuss the matter after the petition is filed. A decision on the issue will accordingly be taken to support this legal course.”
Reacting to the decision of J&K Civil Society Coordination Committee (J&K CSCC) the PDP Chief Spokesman Rafi Ahmad Mir told KNS “PDP has times and again raised for more and more constitutional powers to Jammu & Kashmir and welcomes the decision of J&K Civil Society Coordination Committee (J&K CSCC) on filing a petition for restoration of pre-1953 position to Jammu. The party will sit and discuss after the petition is filed by the Civil Society group in the Supreme Court of the country and a decision to support the legal course will be taken accordingly.”
Reacting to the announcement of the Civil Society group on filing a petition for restoration of 1953-position the J&K Congress President Gh Ahmad Mir said “I personally believe that people taking legal course on constitutional matters shows the failure of the political system for which the incumbent BJP Government at the centre is responsible. Congress is the biggest grass root level national political party and is not opposed to constitutional rights of the rights of the people. Once the petition for restoration of pre-1953 position is filed in the supreme court of the country the party will sit and discuss the issue of the constitutional rights of the people of Jammu & Kashmir and accordingly a decision will be taken.”
Welcoming the decision of the J&K Civil Society Coordination Committee (J&K CSCC) to file a petition for restoration of pre-1953 position the Peoples' Democratic Front Chairman Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen said “Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) stands for the restoration of the constitutional powers of Jammu & Kashmir to 1953 position and party extends support to any such legal and constitutional course irrespective of the political ideologies.”
When contacted CPI (M) State Secretary and MLA Kulgam M Y Tarigami said “CPI(M) has always firmly spoke about the respect to the instrument of accession which is the basis of the relations of Jammu & Kashmir with the Union of India. CPI(M) welcomes and supports the decision of J& K Civil Society Coordination Committee (J&K CSCC).” (KNS)
