A team of SKIMS’ doctors examined students, faculty of college to collect data

Baramulla, Jul 12 (KNS): Department of Biotechnology at Baramulla Degree College and SK Institute of Medical Sciences’ Endocrinology unit on Thursday held at joint health camp.
Organised under the college’s UGC-Teacher Enrichment Programme, the event included data collection and medical examinations.
A team of SKIMS’ doctors examined the students and the faculty of the college to collect the data, which was later analysed by Head Endocrinology, Dr Shariq Masoodi, during his presentation to demonstrate ways of data analysis.
In his lecture, Dr Masoodi, also a renowned Endocrinologist, spoke about the technicalities of research.
“We all do research every day,” he explained. “The problem in this part of the world is we do not get our work published.”
Stressing on the need to keep a check on body weight, he said accumulation of fats inside the body results in all kinds of problems ranging from diabetes to hypertension to cardiac ailments.
“After 30, people usually lead stable lives. They have same food intake but their output in the form of physical exertion decreases a lot. It results in weight gain,” he said.
“We need to keep a check on our weight. If we are not losing weight, we are definitely gaining it.”
The session was attended by faculty and students of the college.
The Principal of the college, Prof F R Beig, thanked Dr Masoodi and his team for making the camp successful.
“We appreciate the way SKIMS’ Endocrinology Unit collaborated in conducting this event. We hope to make more such events possible in the future,” he said. (KNS)
